Unpolished Legacies Online (ULO) is a digital resource for middle and high school education that uses art to explore Rhode Island’s cultural and natural histories. This project supports instruction on local Indigenous, botanical, industrial, and post-industrial heritage using Mashapaug Cove and its surrounding landscape, as a focal point and springboard for study.
My Role: As a Brown University Research Fellow I worked for Unpolished Legacies under the guidance of visual artists Becci Davis and Holly Ewald to clearly and creatively amplify the project’s mission. I developed artist profiles, highlighting each artist’s practice and their connections to histories surrounding Gorham and the Mashapaug Pond. I also designed a press kit with a flyer, postcard, and digital posts to promote the project’s launch and engage the public. Further, I captured new photographs of Mashapaug Pond and its surrounding landscape for use on the website.
